Why I Started Writing About the Talk
Communication is leadership in motion.
Every strong school team has one thing in common:
they know how to talk to each other.
Not just in staff meetings or emails, but in the everyday moments that shape trust, clarity, and collaboration.
In my work with school leaders, I’ve seen the same truth over and over — when communication breaks down, everything else does too. Misunderstandings pile up. Frustration grows. Energy that should be going toward students gets lost in staff conflict or confusion.
That’s why I wrote Fix the Talk. Lead the Team.
The talk isn’t a side piece of leadership — it is the work of leadership. Clear, intentional communication is the foundation for positive culture, strong collaboration, and lasting impact.
This Substack will bring you small, practical ways to “fix the talk” each month. Sometimes that means adding more clarity. Sometimes it means addressing silence. And sometimes it means remembering to laugh in the middle of a stressful day.
If you’re leading people, conversations matter.
I’m glad you’re here.
